According to the dictionary, the term Youngblood refers to fresh, new and
vigorous ideas or people. In the south it is used as a term of endearment reserved for youngsters who are full of energy and
ready to play their way to the top of the game of life, regardless of the obstacles they may face along the way. This more
than adequately describes J-Bo and Sean Paul, the dynamic duo of Georgia born MCs whose sensational 1999 debut, Against Da
Grain, was embraced by hip-hop fans and critics alike. "It made us feel good that so many people liked the album, because
our whole thing was against the grain," says Sean Paul. It was like people from other parts of the country were finally opening
up to the sounds of South.
With their long awaited follow-up, Drankin Patnaz, the YoungBloodZ return with a collection
of positive, fun, bass-bumping songs. Picking up where Against Da Grain left off, they pour up another tall glass of potent
lyrics, mixed with gallons of hot funky tracks, that will intoxicate their listeners well beyond the legal drinking limit.
Under the guidance of acclaimed So So Def producer, Jermaine Dupree, and produced by the Lil Jon (Ludacris, Too Short), Tha
Trackboyz (Nelly), Jazze Pha (Nappy Roots, Cash Money), and the Attic Crews Mark Twayne (Mac 10, Pastor Troy ), Drankin Patnaz
is filled with the kind of music that will make every hour of the day a happy one. The rowdy lead single,Damn, hits you as
hard as thunder, featuring the Dirty South attitude with fellow Atlanta producer/rapper Lil Jon. The soulfully smooth track,
"Cadillac Pimpin'," with a sparkling melody and tight beat, tailor-made for cruising, is a riding song for all true players.
With the pimped-out jam "No Average Playa," Sean Paul and J-Bo lay the lyrical smack down over a tremendously funky beat.
However, its the albums title track, Drankin' Patnaz, with its festive party vibe, that sums up the spirit of this album.
Drankin Patnaz also pays homage to Sean Paul and J-Bo's ten-year friendship. "Me and shawty have been together ten
years," says J-Bo. Born Sean Paul Joseph and Jeffrey Ray Grigsby and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, both grew up in single parent
homes, where hard times tempered with lots of love saw them through. According to Sean Paul, he claims no particular section
of Atlanta as his neighborhood. "I put it down in every neighborhood in Atlanta," recalls Sean Paul. J-Bos experiences growing
up echoes his partner in rhyme. He says it was his share of hard times that gave him the inner strength and determination
to be who he wanted to be. When J-Bo and Sean Paul first met, both were into rap. They discovered they shared a love for music,
a unique talent for rhyming, and decided to form a duo and leave their homes behind. Their quest led them to their friend
Big Floatie's apartment, where they met other rappers, producers, and kindred spirits, some of which would eventually become
the Attic Crew. "We were some young cats back then," says Sean Paul. "We just packed up everything we had in a garbage bag
and moved out to this spot my homeboy had in College Park. After that everyone else just started floating in. Everyone that
hung out at the house was either an artist or a producer. We gathered at the house to have a good time recording music and
eventually our squad came together." Dubbing themselves the YoungBloodZ because they were the junior members of the crew,
they began to make a name for themselves. It didnt take long before they caught the attention of La Face Records who signed
them and released their acclaimed debut album Against Da Grain. Widely accepted by both fans and critics alike, the album
yielded the underground single "Shake 'Em Off," the breakthrough track "U-Way," and the radio and video hit "85" (featuring
Big Boi). The YoungBloodZ were also lucky enough to tour the country with label mates OutKast and Goodie Mob. Against Da Grain
introduced us to the world, and we are grateful for some good memories, good times, and we toast every night, adds Sean Paul.
We are happy to be alive and doing what we love to do. We want people to know that were here, were happy and we invite them
all to come party with us.
